P90X - Day 23

Well, well, well....I learned last night, that no matter how I feel, I have no choice but to continue these workouts. I am no longer allowed to complain about "not feeling good enough" to workout. Alana set the bar for me last night. She went out with a friend, and had a couple of glasses of wine...to set this in perspective, Alana can smell wine and get a buzz!! She's not a drinker! However, as 'happy' as she was, she completed the workout with me...CORE SYNERGISTICS to boot! Kudos to her! She even informed me this morning that she is hoping to continue with the rest of the workouts...I was thinking she would only 'hang' with me for the "rest week"...I love that woman!

Core seemed a little easier than just a few nights ago. Although it did seem that Tony was saying "superman, banana" much faster than he did the other night! The tightness in my midsection after those workouts, makes it all seem worth it though!

We're taking our 'rest day' tonight. Headed out for a night of fun...Tomorrow night? Back to Yoga X!! (yuck)

P90X - Day 22

Stretch X. Never have done this one as of yet. I have always opted for the "rest" day. I think I'll be doing Stretch X from now on! What a stretch routine!! 'Camel' hurt my back, so I definitely know I'm in need of some stretching there...and the 'plough'?? How the heck can people put their legs over their heads, touch the feet to the floor, and still breathe?? I felt like I was cutting off my airway!! A lot of these moves were straight out of yoga X....guess if he keeps planting these "yoga" moves in with the other DVD's, I wont have any other option than to say, "yoga's not that bad!"....

Oh yeah...Alana's still going strong with me on the workouts! I also mentioned that there is a Cardio X DVD....I'm pretty sure she'll be the only one who ever watches that one! :O)

I'm actually beginning to see a difference in the way I look and feel...68 more days to go! Bring it!!

P90X - Day 21

P90X - Last night? Kenpo X. WOW! What is it with that workout? So many people love this one the most, out of all the P90X routines!! What Kenpo is: punching, kicking, twisting. Reminds me of what a kickboxing class would be. Although, I'd never know. I've never done kickboxing! But, WOW what a workout! ...and FUN!

Alana joined me again last night. Once again, she showed off her "cardio" ability! While I really get into beating the crap out of the air, breathing like I'm gonna die, she's doing the exercises, breathing just as calm as can be. Although she was working! Both of us had 'sore' sides from doing Core Synergistics, but hey, as one of my old workout buddies used to say, "pain is just weakness leaving the body"....

At one point in the DVD, Tony says that his heart rate is around 140 (?) or something like that...he's always talking! Anyway, I checked mine and I'm at like 170!! I hope don't die...cuz' I have so much fun with that workout! Now toga on the other hand...I'm kidding...I'm actually looking forward to another round of yoga with Alana...wanna try that 'crane' pose, and see if I can impress her! :O)

Tomorrow: Stretch X.

P90X - Day 20

Last night, Alana was ready to go for the workout! I have to admit, I'm surprised that she's stuck with me these past few days! I really enjoy having her to workout with!! Which leads me to last night's workout: Core Synergistics.

I LOVE YOGA.

Never thought I'd say that!! Let me tell you, I sweat about 10 gallons last night!! That was by far, the hardest workout to date!!! My midsection was s-c-r-e-a-m-i-n-g! I had no idea what Synergistics was, so I checked out the DVD yesterday, before working out last night. It looked like it wasn't going to be "that" bad...

OUCH!

I hear so many times: P90X is a "love/hate" thing....they couldn't be more right. LOVE the fact that my sides are so sore today (I know it's working!)...HATE the exercises! LOVE the fact that by the time I actually looked to see how much time was left in this workout, there was only 20 minutes left! HATE the fact that there were 20 minutes left!!

Alana did excellent for most of the workout. She has trouble with push ups, but no trouble at all with the more "cardio" type exercises. One of my strong points have always been push ups, so I didn't have too much trouble there, however the "cardio" exercises kicked my butt! While she's 'hopping' over the towel (back and forth, back and forth)...yeah...I was stepping. I thought I was gonna die, and she's "la-tee-da, la-tee-da"...."bounce, bounce"...like a bunny! Anyway, tonight is Kenpo X. Can't wait for that one! I LOVE this workout! This should be fun. We have the Wii Fit, and Alana is always bragging to everyone how she can "whoop" me at the boxing exercises....

Can't wait for Kenpo X! Until tomorrow.....

P90X - Day 19

I hate Yoga...but it's getting better! Last night was the start of week 4 (Phase 1). Alana did yoga with me last night, and with her there with me, apparently I pushed harder that ever. She says she's gonna be doing tonight's workout with me as well....we'll see! "Core Synergistics" ...heck, I don't even know what that means! I'll be watching the DVD today before attempting the workout tonight. Right now the motivation is back up!!

Got "back on the wagon" as far as the diet goes. Support from Alana in this area has been a very big part of my motivation. She's trying to cook things that she knows I'll eat, and even saving the calorie counts off of the packages, so I can keep track of everything! She's the best!

Back to the Yoga....I did just about all of the poses last night! Still can't get the "crane" though. Also, the standing on one leg, bent over at the waist, leg pointed back, arm pointed up...yeah....no. Will keep pressing on though! I can say without a doubt, the more you do this, the easier it gets! When Tony is explaining for you to breathe, keep your arms straight, etc...he's not just saying this so that you look pretty doing these exercises, it actually makes it more do-able!

As for the Core Synergistics, I'll let you know tomorrow!

P90X - getting up to date!

Well...I've never done a "blog". To me it sounds like an old horror "B" movie! However, I guess it can't hurt to 'journal' for myself. Even if no one ever reads this, hopefully it will help keep me motivated to continue on with my "get-in-shape" mentality!!

OK. I'm 41 years old. Overweight. LOVE to eat. Feel like I'm too lazy to workout. Married with 2 boys and a girl. 10, 7 and 3 (that alone should be enough for a workout, right?). I've never been athletic, but have "lifted weights" for years. In all my years of working out, the thing I have always wanted most (being honest here...) is the "ripped abs". I've just never had the discipline to keep at it long enough to attain this goal. In fact, after September 2007, I think the only time I "lifted weights", was to get them out of the way of my crawl space, in order to pull out the Christmas Tree!

Enter P90X, and my lovely wife! As a 'last minute' Christmas gift, she decided to purchase this 'fantastic' new workout program for me. She said it was the most popular thing going right now, and people were going nuts over this program. So..knowing that I haven't attempted ANY type of cardio in my workouts since I was in the ARMY (at 19 years of age!!!), she thought this would be just the thing to get me going again! Yeah.

So, January 3, 2008, I completed my "before" pics (much to my wife's amusement), my P90X 'fit test', and prepared my meal plan (www.myfitnesspal.com).

P90X is a 3 phase, workout/nutrition plan, in which I'm guaranteed to be in the best shape of my life after 90 days (at 41 years old!!...I don't know??)....

I'm starting this blog after (semi) completing the 1st 3 weeks of the program. So to get caught up to date:

Week 1 - AWESOME! I'm getting up at 3 - 3:30AM every day. Completing everything but about 40 minutes of Yoga (Yoga? Really??)....

Week 2 - I hate Yoga. Missed a couple of days in opting for sleep, rather than working out.

Week 3 - I hate Yoga and Plyometrics. Getting very sloppy on my diet. Missed a few more workouts.

Today? 1st day of week 4. Supposed to be starting a different cycle of workouts. Today was supposed to be Yoga. I hate Yoga. Slept in. I'm gonna "try" and get a Yoga workout in tonight. And yes. It IS a workout much to my surprise!!

I'm going to try and keep up with this blog to see if I can stay motivated...I really do want to get back in shape, not only to see the "abs", but to feel better, live longer, and be an overall happier person for my family's sake!

Another quick note: How do people actually fit these workouts into their schedule??? With work, home chores, kids homework, school projects, food prep, eating, kid's basketball, Awana's, church, bible studies, keeping up with friends and sleeping?????

Oh and another note: THROW AWAY THE SCALE! No change in 3 weeks is actually quite depressing, and not very good for the morale! People keep saying, "...don't look at the scale". I think I'll take their advice!
